SMS Gateways

Here’s a trick to send SMS text messages for free via Cronote. You must know the recipient’s cell phone carrier (i.e. AT&T, Verizon, etc.).

  1. Look up your carrier on a list of SMS gateways. An SMS gateway is an email address that you can use if you want to send an email and have it arrive as a text message on someone’s phone.
  2. In the Cronote Recipients field, enter the phone number (no punctuation and including the area code), followed by the SMS gateway address. For example, if your AT&T number is (123) 456-7890, enter 1234567890@txt.att.net.
  3. Complete the remaining Message and Delivery Time fields.

By doing this, you have essentially scheduled an email Cronote that will arrive as an SMS Cronote. Since our email Cronotes are free, you have avoided using an SMS Cronote credit.

Please be aware this method is not as reliable as scheduling an actual SMS Cronote. You must also be sure of the recipient’s carrier. We thus cannot guarantee its delivery as well as we can for an SMS Cronote.

Webpage Redesign

Over this past week, we unveiled some exciting, new features on the Cronote website!

1. Incoming Cronotes

When you log in, you can see a list of your incoming cronotes. These are messages that have been scheduled for you and the time and date they will arrive.

2. Outgoing Cronotes

You can also see outgoing cronotes — ones that you have scheduled for yourself or others! In the future, we’ll add in more features that allow you to manage and edit cronotes.

3. Contacts

The third tab is where you can add and remove contacts. (Instructions.)

4. Groups

Here you can create groups to send out mass cronotes easily. (Instructions.)

5. Profile

Need to update your contact info? Here you can edit your name, phone number, carrier, or password. Note that your email address (shown in gray) cannot be edited.

Of course, you can schedule cronotes on the left-hand side in the purple box. We hope you enjoy these updates! We’ll be translating these features to the iPhone app next.

iPhone App Instructions

Have the Cronote Reminders iPhone app? Here are some instructions to help guide you. For the Cronote website instructions, click here.

To Sign Up Via the iPhone:

  1. Load the Cronote Reminders iPhone App.
  2. On the main screen, complete all fields.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email to verify your account. Check your email, and click on the enclosed link. If you don’t see a confirmation email, check your spam folder!

If you have any questions during the sign-up process, send us an email at cronote[@]cronote.com.

Navigation:

After you sign in, the first screen is the Cronote scheduling wizard.

Swipe right, and you’ll be taken to the second screen containing your control panel. Here, the blue tabs will let you access the following pages:

  • Contacts: Manage your contacts.
  • Groups: Create preset groups to speed up the Cronote scheduling process. Ideal for sending cronotes to sports teams, co-workers, and groups of friends.
  • Cronotes: Review and delete out-going cronotes.
  • Purchases: Review any purchases.
  • Profile:  Edit your name, phone number, and password.

All of these features offer on-screen instructions. The only page not accessible from the iPhone app is “Buttons.” Please use the website to manage your Cronote buttons.

To Schedule a Cronote:

After you sign in, you can schedule a cronote in 3 easy steps.

  1. Enter an email or phone number.
  2. Write your message. While there is no defined character limit, keep in mind that SMS text messages are limited to 160 characters. Messages that exceed the character count are automatically split into multiple texts.
  3. Set the delivery time, and click “Schedule.”

All new users receive 10 free text messages. Any phone number entered into the first field will be sent a text message. At the top of your screen, you will see your total number of text messages remaining. All email cronotes are free; any email address entered into the first field will be sent an email.

  1. Add your contacts manually. Click on the “Add Contact” button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Import your contacts from Google, Facebook, or CSV. Click on the “Import Contacts” button on the bottom of the screen. (Note that, due to privacy, Facebook can only important names, not phone numbers and email addresses.)

On the iPhone, you can also import contacts from your iPhone Address Book. See iPhone App Instructions for details.

  1. Click the “Group Builder” button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions, which will ask you to name your Group, and then select your group members. Click on the names that you want included in the group. Once you click on a name, it will be highlighted purple. If you make a mistake, click on the name again to un-highlight it.

Instructions

** Please see the updated versions: Website Instructions and iPhone App Instructions **

The Cronote website was built to be as user-friendly as possible, but here are some complementary instructions for those of you who like to see how it’s done step-by-step.

To Sign Up:

  1. Go to Cronote.com.
  2. Complete all fields in the “Sign Up” box.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email to verify your account. Click on the link in the email.

You will automatically be listed as your own Contact. This means you can start sending cronotes to yourself as soon as you sign in!

To Schedule a Cronote:

After you sign in, you can schedule a cronote in 3 easy steps.

  1. Choose your recipient. The drop-down menu shows the list of your trusted contacts. (See below for info on how to find more contacts.)
  2. Write your message.
  3. Set the delivery time, and click “Schedule.”

The recipient will receive both an email and text message at the designated time. Please note that the time of delivery is based on the sender’s timezone.

To Create a Contacts Group:

A Contacts Group comes in handy when you have a preset list of people to whom you frequently want to send cronotes. To begin, sign in. The “Create a Contacts Group” box is located on the right-hand side of the page.

  1. Select contacts. The list is pre-populated with your trusted contacts. Click on the names that you want included in the group. Once you click on a name, it will be highlighted purple. If you make a mistake, click on the name again to un-highlight it.
  2. Name this group, and click “Save.”

Your new Contacts Group will automatically appear in the list of recipients for you to choose when sending out a cronote. Note that the Contacts Group feature is currently only available for the website and not the iPhone.

To Find New Contacts by Name:

We added this feature so that you can easily find your friends, family members, and co-workers who are also on Cronote. After you sign in, the “Find New Contacts by Name” search box is located in the lower right.

  1. Type a name (at least 3 characters). If the person you are looking for is a registered Cronote member, his/her name will appear alongside an email address.
  2. Click “Add”. A Cronote Contact request will be sent to the person via email. Once he/she confirms by clicking on the enclosed link, his/her name will appear on your trusted contacts list and vice versa.

As of this time, cronotes can only be sent to people who are Cronote members. We want to ensure a safe, secure service so that you do not receive unwanted messages from anyone outside of your trusted network. We encourage you to invite your friends, family, and co-workers to join!
